The first week of summit

This week has gone by very fast. We are busy all the time. Pretty much all our free time has been used making our room awesome every day. We won best room all but two days. The competition is getting harder all the time. The first day we won just for folding our towels cool, then we made our room look like Narnia, then we made our room into a murder mystery with clues on all of our beds, then we made our room like a peppermint forest and it even smelled like peppermint. This morning we did an I Spy room with cute little notes on every "I Spy" item. We got a perfect score, but we still didn't win. Tomorrow morning we're going to recreate the candy land game all over our floor with a spinner and everything.

I am pretty tired. There are lectures all morning and evening and every other day it's sports time in the afternoon or lectures. Karlyn and I play frisbee. We don't get to be on the same team very much because there are about five girls who play frisbee compared to like 50 guys. Frisbee has been quite fun, although the fields we play on are not very grassy. I'm missing skin on my elbow and my knee from sliding, and my pants have a large hole in them now. I will say the trees at the park are great for climbing and sleeping in.

I have to go to class now...

Life as a temporarily honorary Leander

On Thursday my mommy and Drew left me with the Leanders.

Later in the evening, we went and saw After Earth with some more friends. I got to meet Emmagene Mittelburg and she sat next to me for the movie. We talked pretty much all through the previews and some during the credits, which was very fun.

Friday morning we went to help clean the Johnson's house with a bunch of other friends. I got to arrange a couple vases of flowers to leave in their house :)

That evening, we had hot fudge sundaes, played apples to apples, and then we watched the Hobbit. (well, not all of us were awake by the end)

Today Mrs. Leander lent me a book of theirs called "Till we have Faces" by C. S. Lewis. So far I really like it. I'm a little over a third into it now.

This evening for dinner the Lanes and the Leander grandparents came over for dinner. We talked a lot about Summit and what to expect ect... Then everyone prayed for us. It was very sweet. I was very happy and excited after that.

Now I think I will go to sleep. Goodnight :)

Passages.......Wow. May 29th

Hello
Today Drew and Tess went "ice blocking" with the kids from yesterday's post at 9am.
They didn't end up going to the movies last night instead they went to a park and played groundies (not sure what that is)
The mission meeting I went to was great, what a neat bunch of folks. I got my hair cut, It looks strange to me, maybe it won't after I style it.
The main reason I am posting again today is because of Passages.
Tess and Karlyn will go to passages when they are at Summit camp, so they stayed home.
Mrs. Leander, Kasey, Drew and I went to passages.
It is an exhibition about the Bible. We saw pieces of the Dead Sea scrolls on papyrus paper, learned that in Egypt, part of the Torah was used to make the brightly painted mummy masks and people have dissolved the masks to retrieve the scriptures. We saw Torahs from all over the world covered in many different styles...for example the Moroccan covers had a
Moroccan look and the French and Spanish covers had very different feels to them.

We copied scripture in caves by candle light, saw a replica of the first printing press which copied a grape press. Gutenberg was an amazing man, his attention to detail and drive for perfection along with his skills amazed me. We saw copies of the first editions of scripture printed.
Next we walked through history and the battle to translate the scriptures. There were life size wax figures that talked. The figures were of St. Jerome, Anne Boleyn,Tyndall, Knox and others.
It was a wonderful way to see history and always in every room , through all of the exibits there were cases and cases of bibles from all countries belonging to several famous people. It was very exciting.

There were displays on the archeology, Holocaust and my favorite the moon.
After walking through the difficulty and amazing struggles folks went through to have the Bible and preserve it, the last display I walked through was the Lunar one.
I was tired and not reading everything any more.
The display boxes were sparse and I was perplexed why the displys started over with the same things...first the rocks that were carved into, then the Papyrus paper again and a bible here and there as it advanced through time, then the room looks like you were standing on the moon with the space shuttle off to the side and there was a case with a medallion on a black pillow.
I didn't read it at first but the caption was the "Bible on the moon." I looked for it, I thought maybe that's not a pillow but a case. As it turned out the medal was the bible the whole Bible, every word was in a space less that 2 inches by 2inches on micro fish.
There was a computer screen beside that allowed me to move the words to a size I could read.
Wow
What a walk through history and to see how we have gone from carvings on a rock to sending the whole thing to the moon made anything seem possible!

I highly highly recommend this exhibit which has been around only two years and in Co for only 6 months.
I hope this finds you well, thanks for reading :)

staying in Coolorado

Hello all, our blogger is sick :(
We spent most of the day with the Adams in Denver then we drove back to the Leander's where there was a party going on.Tess was to ill to go in. So I gathered games and kept her company, we enjoyed putting together a puzzle of "Fancy Nancy" there were pieces of the puzzle with glitter on them :) It was missing 5 pieces but it was still worth the time.

We watched an old movie and couldn't think of secrets to share so we made some up... I'm not very good at that.
Drew is still at the party but I believe it's just Karlyn, Hannah, Kasey , Drew and one other guy playing games now. Tess is sleeping beside me and not coughing, yay!

Yesturday we went to a church we found on line, it was just what we needed, the worship and teaching were so great. Tess and I each made a friend and exchanged contact information.
we drove to Denver late afternoon that day.

Our plans this week are to stay here in Colorado Springs. Drew would like to hike Pikes peak but with Tess unwell we might just have to drive up there,
Tomorrow night is a girls study at the Leander's we'll get to see the Adams again ;)
We hope to do a lantern tour of caves, go to a meeting for a mission trip, gather with the Lanes and Leanders to pray for the girls time together next week. we want to throw pizza with the Leander's and I mightt get my hair cut.
I plan to drive home Thursday unless Tess is still sick, I won't leave until I know she is well.
So there you have it folks.
Winding down now ;)

Have a lovely rest

Air Force Academy, Olympic Training Center and Cave Dwellings

This morning we dropped Tait off with Aunt Fleenie and Uncle Bill at 6:45am. They were going to take him to the airport to fly home and spend a week with Dad and Creighton. It has been so fun to have him with us. The time with Tait has flown by so fast.

After we said goodbye to Tait, we met up with Uncle Danny, Aunt Debby, Austin and Noel to tour the Air Force Academy. We were there before it opened so we threw a frisbee around and played cards while we waited. Austin saw an earless rabbit (a prairie dog). After we perused the sites, we said goodbye to the Crocetti's.

We went to Chipotle's for lunch(which was very yummy), then we met up with Aunt Gina and Uncle Ken. We car pooled with them in their red rental car and went to the US Olympic Training Center. There were a lot of athletic looking people walking around.

After we finished the tour there, we weren't sure where to go next. We drove around the Garden of the Gods and went in the trading post there. We found some fun sunglasses in there with mustaches.

Then we saw the Cave Dwellings and Manitou Museum. My favorite part about the cave dwellings was that everything was my height. The rooms and walkways and everything was very small and cozy. I liked that. In the museum, one of the cool exhibits was all about the history of the cave dwellings as a tourist site. They had postcards from a hundred years ago.

Aunt Gina is my mom's little sister. I'm not sure why, but somehow whenever Aunt Gina and I are both around my name becomes Gina to mom (not on purpose). I've gotten used to responding to the name when we're with them now because it's so consistent. We had a lot of fun today.

This evening for dinner we went to "My Big Fat Greek Restaurant" with Aunt Gina, Uncle Ken, and Aunt Maria. We had so much fun! The food was delicious and the waitress was sweet and friendly. At one point a few of the waitresses did a Greek dance all around the restaurant and there was a guy who blew fire out of his mouth a few feet from our table, then at the end of the dance they broke a plate and yelled "Opa!". We sat at the table and talked and laughed for 2 hours. It was a lovely eveni

Driving through Kansas

This morning we started driving pretty early in the morning. Nothing very eventful happened this morning or afternoon besides a nap time stop...and seeing a semi truck with it's face in the ground.

We got to the Eisenhower Library and museum about 30 minutes before everything closed. We didn't have time to see the museum, so mom and I toured the house where Dwight Eisenhower and his family lived growing up, while Tait and Drew looked at the Library. The house was very sweet and little. 9 people lived there. There were 6 boys, Mr. Eisenhower, Mrs. Eisenhower and Grandpa. The house seemed like mostly bedrooms and not very big ones. Mrs. Eisenhower made 30 loaves of bread every week in her little kitchen. Everything in the house was cute.

After that we continued driving. For dinner we stopped at a restaurant called "Made From Scratch". We noticed the "Welcome Scratcher" just outside the door looks like it has probably been used, and took a picture. It was not one of our favorites as far as restaurants go, but we had fun just sitting at a table together. There were a couple of southern speaking older gentlemen sitting not too far from us. They were a funny pair. One of them was very animated, talkative and not very quiet and the other was quieter and just nodded his head offering little comments every now and then. It was pretty entertaining.

I took a picture of the sun shining through the clouds because it looked very fancy. The picture doesn't quite do it justice, but you get the idea.

We'll keep on driving till mom gets tired. We plan on being in Colorado Springs tomorrow sometime.

May 21

Late last night Victoria and I were texting.... She said " It feels like you've all been gone quite long enough" Yes it's true!
We miss all of you at home.
-Carla

The night before last night there were big storms where we were. We didn't really realize how big they were at first, we were just watching the thunder and lightening. Mom was really tired and wanted to stop driving for the night so we just pulled off at some random exit that happened to lead to a state park. As we get to the campsite area we got texts from Dad telling us there are tornados and 60 mile an hour winds in our area. We park our camper and turn our little radio on and hear the weather warnings. Turns out, we went down in a valley with tons of trees and the storm passed over us without any serious winds. We laid out on the back bed and watched the lightning.

Yesterday, we drove the rest of the way to NITOC and hung out with some friends and watched some speeches. We camped right next to the cabins where the Leanders are staying.

May 22
Tait, Tess and Drew are outside with a group from Co. We're all staying in the same area.
Lori Leander and I made dinner in the RV for our families but we couldn't turn away the knocks on the door from their friends so we had about 14 over for dinner although they didn't all eat.
At one point we had every one sing happy birthday to my dear Mother in law she is 80 today.
I sent it off to her and we all had ice cream bars. After the kids left three sets of parents came to visit and I feel so loved and blessed :)
I felt poorly this am, so we got a slow start, but the camp ground has laundry facilities and so I filled 6 of the washing machines all at once, how grand to get that much laundry done so quickly.
I judged and timed some wonderful speeches and had some really wonderful conversations and interactions with friends.
My favorite part of this NITOC trip has been to see Kasey, it's been a year and I forgot what a really wonderful young man he is, how fun it is to have him around. His wit coupled with respect and kindness towards those around him is unparalleled.
I am disappointed that we are behind on memorizing but we do have two chapters memorized and the trip is not over.
It's 11:30 so I'm going to sleep... I've told the kids they could stay up as late as they like....I wonder when that will be. Goodnight all Carla

Peabody Ducks and National Civil Rights Museum

This morning mom went into our bathroom and found that Drew's shampoo had spilled all over the medicine cabinet and down the wall. Drew cleaned up what he could pretty well, but there are still some remnants. Thankfully, it's not such a bad smell. (being old spice)

We went and saw the Peabody Ducks do their little march from the elevator to the pond in the Lobby of the Peabody Hotel. There were tons of people gathered around to see this event and there was dramatic music and a Duck Master dressed in a fancy suit. It was fun, not so much because of the ducks, it was everything else.

Then we went to the National Civil Rights Museum, which is where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. It was very inspiring. It's so strange to think that there was still racial segregation and discrimination even just 50 years ago in our country.

After the Museum we started heading toward Arkansas where we'll spend a couple days at NITOC. Mom has seen about 8 armadillos dead on the side of the road. In our area every once in a while you see a deer but no armadillos :)

Bookstore and driving

Last night we were all sleeping so soundly because it was quiet time at the Yogi Bear campground. Then all of the sudden, it sounded like we were in an auditorium with an enormous crowd clapping and cheering. That's how loud the rain was. Then there was a flash of lightning so bright it lit up the whole camper even with all the blinds down and curtains. There was thunder too. It was like a big party in the middle of the night.

This morning we started out heading east to meet Amy at an airport in Georgia because she missed her flight. But she got on a different plane, so we turned around and went back toward the cool bookstore. Tait led a really nice church service for us in the car on the way back.

We started a license plate game. We are all trying to be the first to find as many different state plates as we can. So far Drew is winning. Tait and I are on a team now.

We got a cheese steak to split for 11zies so Tait could experience the deliciousness with us. It was very good.

The bookstore was great. We were in there for a few hours. I got a book on floral design, Drew got a Robin Hood comic book, mom got some classics and one on Friendship, and Tait got one with a bunch of short stories and one other. I could have stayed in there for longer, it was very fun.

We are on our way to Memphis now. We got some yummy strawberries from a guy on the side of the road. :D

Now mom is buying us ice cream! Oh Boy!

Corvettes and Carnton Plantation

This morning we went to the Corvette Museum. We wanted to see how they assembled cars with robots, but they closed that part because they're changing it around for the new Corvette. So we ended up not paying for the museum and drove to Nashville. We did see a few sporty cars anyway.

Mom decided to take us to the Carnton Plantation. The area was so pretty. I took a picture of the road with trees growing over. When we all got to the plantation we were pretty tired and didn't feel like going on another tour. So mom went on a tour without Drew, Tait and I. I kinda regret missing out on the tour which apparently was really good. But if I had gone, I would have missed out on writing a song with Drew and Tait about our trip so far. We haven't finished the song yet because the trip isn't over, but it's coming along splendidly. I'll see about posting it later.

We plan on going to a cool book store tomorrow. I'm not sure what else we'll do. We're staying at the Yogi Bear RV park tonight. We all threw the frisbee around until it got too hard to see the frisbee. At one point in our game I placed myself in a position to catch the frisbee, and I did, with my face. Now I have a little bump on my forehead, which is kinda cool. Surprisingly, I hardly ever get those.

It is really hot and humid over here. It is so nice to be plugged in so we have the air conditioning on.

Mammoth Caves and yummy food

This morning we drove to the caves and got set up with a historical tour. Our tour guide was Ranger Joel. He was funny and made the tour interesting. The cave itself was amazing. It was had some really big "rooms" that were impressive. (hence the name mammoth caves) It also had a really fun windy, narrow, low ceiling path (one of the few places I had to duck) They called that section "fat man's misery". My favorite part in the cave was this part where you could look up and up without seeing the ceiling it was so high, and then you looked down right next to the path and there was a hole that went down even farther. They built a staircase there and that's how we climbed up out of the caves. I was happy mom and Tait came this time. It's more fun with more people ooing and ahhing. I tried to take some pictures but it was dark In the caves and the camera made it look even darker, so you can't really see the awesomeness.

We drove a little more and got ourselves close to the Bowling Green.

I finished the book I started yesterday while Tait read aloud "Tales of Ancient Egypt". He also read us some poetry during lunch.

For dinner we went to a very busy restaurant and got some Kentucky food. It was all really good. It was funny hearing everyone around us had an accent.

Hanging out in Purcellville

Two days ago: Amy had the day off so we were going to hang out nearby. We planned to go on a little hike, but mom was not feeling very good. She and Dad went to the doctor and they diagnosed mom with Lyme disease and gave her 4 weeks worth of antibiotics. While the parents were at the doctor Drew, Tait and I threw the frisbee around. Tait said that we're a lot better and are actually pretty good now :D

Later, Creighton, Drew, Tait, Amy, and I all went to the park down the road from the Kucks' house and played groundies. We came up with a really cool variation where everyone (besides the one who's "it") has to have a buddy and not let go of your buddy's hand the whole time you're running/climbing away. Tait was very impressive and manly as he swung Amy (and me too) around the play structure with one arm. We also climbed a really tall tree at the park. Then Tait was all sweet and bought us drinks and ice cream. We had a lovely time.

Yesterday, Creighton and Dad left early in the morning to fly home. Mom, Drew and I ran some errands with Tait, and then picked up Amy from work and we went and got some fro yo. We did more errands and then Tait took us to the park where he proposed to Amy. It was very pretty. We got Amy and then went home where Mrs. Kucks made us a yummy dinner. It was so fun being with the Kucks. They are so sweet and it is easy to talk comfortably and familiarly with them. I feel very blessed.

Today, we're on the road again headed for the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. Tait brought a bunch of books and is letting me read one of them right now. It is so happy to have him with us. :)

The Holocaust Museum

Today we went to the Holocaust Museum in downtown DC. It was very disturbing. The power of ideas was made very obvious through everything that happened. Adolph Hitler controlled the media and was able to tell the people whatever he wanted them to believe. The depravity of man was also apparent. Every person had a choice to support or oppose the Nazis. While Hitler made it hard to resist him, many people willingly accepted his lies and acted on them. We heard stories of friends and neighbors who turned each other in. We saw a video of a community publicly humiliating a couple because an "Aryan" married someone from an "inferior race". They shaved their heads, hung a sign around their necks and marched them out of town. The people standing around were just laughing and smiling at the whole thing.

It was horrifying to see the huge pile of shoes from all the people who were killed. You hear stories about the people who survived the camps and people who sheltered or helped the Jews during the Holocaust, but you don't hear about all the people who worked in the death camps or the medical experimentation facilities or everyone else who did nothing. To be a part of the genocide and have those memories would be devastating.

Sorry to leave you with such sobering thoughts. This is what we did today.

Graduation Day and Mother's Day

Today Tait Graduated from Patrick Henry College
We sat together as a family with Tait's fiancé and her Mom Mary Kucks.
it was a wonderful ceremony, the professors including Dr Kucks were all dressed in grounds with their individual colors and degrees displayed. I found the speeches inspiring and they made the weight of the accomplishment evident.
We felt somewhat out of place like we were crashing someone else's party. And yet there were many familiar faces and it was really neat to watch Tait inner act with his friends and professors.

We had Lunch at the Kucks house, Amy's brother Eric and his wife Melody and their two week old son came also. Tatum a roommate was there too.
We sat around the table talking and laughing for so many hours. It was my favorite part of the day to learn so much about Amy's family and I was surprised how many ways our families were similar.
It was a really great day!!

Today Mother's Day we went to the church where Tait has been leading worship :)
We are going to Alexandria and Mt Vernon for the day.

Happy Mothers Day

The American Museum of art and Portrait Gallery

This morning Mrs. Kucks made us a lovely breakfast :)

We drove closer to DC and then took the Metro I to the city. We only did one of the Smithsonians the whole day. A lot of the portraits were of people we've been learning about the last few days.

The special exhibition was a portrait competition. There were so many different styles, it was really interesting. The ones that were awarded first and second place made mom and I go "what?". First place was a long drawn out video of the artist laying on a blank white canvas as the camera slowly moved from looking at his feet and then all the way up past his head. There was some dramatic music playing in the background. Some of the portraits were really amazing with the amount of detail. There was one portrait that was made by wrapping black thread around and across tiny little metal pegs. It totally looked like a drawing until you got up close. It was so detailed.

I really liked looking at the paintings, especially the landscapes.

Sorry this is so late. I meant to post this two days ago...

Yorktown and Williamsburg

This morning we went to Yorktown where General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington's army. The British might have escaped across the river except for a storm that would have wrecked all their boats. It must have been a really intense storm because the other bank looked so close you could swim across it.

Drew and I got to sit on some cannons :D

Later, we went back to Williamsburg and saw some more shops ect.. The church was really interesting. They had the pews boxed off with gates to keep the warmth in. Usually people would bring a heat source. (for example: a heated brick in a bucket)

We also toured George Withe's house. He taught law to Thomas Jefferson. He had a lot of interesting things in his home. It was obvious he had multiple interests.

But most exciting thing of the day! : We are staying in Purcellville with the Kucks! Virginia is very green and pretty.

Williamsburg Day 2

Right when we got to Williamsburg this morning, we got to walk with Benedict Arnold to the front of the courthouse where we heard a proclamation by Patrick Henry. This was before he switched sides. Later in the day he came riding into the city with the British and gave a big speech about why we should give up and reunite with the British.

Today we also sat and listened to Mrs. Washington speak for quite a while. She talked a lot about the war and what she had experienced thus far, and she appealed to the women asking them to contribute to the war effort by sending money to buy food and clothing for the soldiers. That was very interesting and I learned a lot.

We looked in some shops where they talked about their trade and showed us what they were doing. We saw the shoe maker shop, the wig maker shop, the wheelwright and the tailor shop. The guy who made the paint in the wheelwright was very friendly and we talked with him for a while.

We walked through some really pretty gardens and there also was a bush maze that we looked at. Everything looked so well kept and nice, it was lovely.

We saw some of the Williamsburg museum. The most interesting part, I thought, was the exhibit about the insane asylum. We got to read about how the asylum started out and then how the methods changed. It sounded very much like a prison in the beginning.

We have one more day to see more of Williamsburg. There is so much to see and do there.

Williamsburg Day 1

This morning we made breakfast, did all our laundry and took showers and we took our time so it was about 11:30 by the time we got out to Williamsburg.

Today was the first day it has rained on us the whole trip. We have been blessed with amazing happy sunny weather. It only rained a few minutes and then went back to being sunny again.

Our first tour was of the governor's palace. Our tour guide was very kind and gentle in his manner. His costume/character was very cool and it really seemed to fit him well. He didn't just talk about the different interesting things in the house. He talked all about what was going on in the time period and told it like a story, which he was a part of. That was my favorite tour of the day.

Next we toured the house of wealthy gentleman of the time. This tour guide was not dressed in costume. She was a very entertaining speaker. She had certain expressions and ways of putting things that was kinda funny. The family who lived in the house had an interesting story and the house was very pretty. Apparently bright colors were very fashionable in that time period. That was fun to see.

We looked in a couple shops after that but by then we it was almost time for the shows in the big town area. There were people in costume just talking about politics and other things to each other and everyone else. When the actual shows started they still had some interaction with the crowd and were just speaking to us like we were the general public. They even had a public trial where they almost tarred and feathered somebody. Then there were drummers and flute players and they recruited some of the crowd to join the army and they read the Declaration of Independence and fired guns and cannons... It was all very exciting and fun. The cannon especially impressive. When it fired it made a huge smoke ring that didn't disperse until it hit the trees.

After that we toured the capital building where there would be councils, laws made, and trials held in the courtroom.

We're back at the campground for the night. It was thundering and lightning-ing just a few minutes ago. Tomorrow we'll go back to Williamsburg and see some of the many things we missed today.

Jamestown

This morning mom woke up at 6:30 and started driving us to Williamsburg. We got there around 10am. Mom took a nap while Drew and I threw a frisbee around in the parking lot.

Drew bought this frisbee in Niagara Falls. I don't really like hard frisbees generally (because I pretty much stink at throwing them) but this one is really nice. It's not too heavy so it flies far without too much effort, and when you catch it it doesn't hurt your fingers.

The tour guide at Jamestown was so pleasant to listen to. He had a very conversational style that didn't sound forced at all and he brought meaning and morals into the story in such a non threatening way. It was really impressive. I wish we could have toured more of the town with him. There was a museum that we went through with a lot of details about how the people in Jamestown lived and their relations with the Indians and such. It was all very interesting, although we were somewhat tired and didn't take in all the details in.

It was relaxing to just walk on dirt path and hear birds and see squirrels and turtles and interesting bugs. I liked the city to visit, but I definitely prefer being in the middle of trees and grass. (I really wanted to climb a tree, there were so many good ones)

Speaking of bugs....While we were walking through the museum I felt a bug crawling way up pant leg. I got him really fast but then I didn't know what to do with him. I had it pinched through my pants. Any way I went with the situation was going to be unpleasant. It must have been a beetle because it crunched. And then it wouldn't fall down it just stayed there. It was kinda gross and I felt silly trying to deal with it looking natural. (I didn't look too natural)

The time went by really fast. When we got back to the RV we had dinner and then we went and saw Iron Man 3. It was a very fun day. :)

Tonight we are plugged in and hooked up :) Hopefully mommy will sleep well tonight.

Drew was our photographer today (except for one by mom)... I'll try and take more tomorrow.

May 5th a post by Carla

We were in Baltimore on Sunday, the kids slept in. I on the other hand was up with the light and sounds of the day. I waited a while before texting Shannon Bull. We'd arrived at her house the night before, Drew had plugged us into her electricity and it looked rather funny to me to follow our extension cord from several parking spots away from us to her front door.
Church didn't start till 11 am and we were only minutes away, giving Shannon and I plenty of time to visit.
Church was really wonderful, the kids and I talked about the sermon later in the day, it had ministered to us all.
Cheri Lang and her kids were at church too. The Bulls and Langs moved from Southern Oregon to Baltimore 8 and 13 years ago. It is an incredible blessing to still have these friendships. We all had lunch together and then all the kids but Tess played at the Langs house. Shannon, Tess and I were going to do girl stuff all day but ended up napping.....what a treat!

Drew, Tess and I couldn't stand it any more... we were only 2 hours from Tait at Patrick Henry College who had just proposed to Amy Kucks!
We arrived as many were finding out the two are engaged. It was fun to see the students run and hug them, or pile up on Tait.
There are no words to express the feelings it is to hold a person you love that has just become forever your own! I love Amy immensely and have poured my heart and soul into her husband to be, it feels as if all that investment that comes with great love was hers all along. I have no reservations only joy! She is one of the most beautiful people I've ever met. It is overwhelming to think of how blessed I am with my daughter in laws!!!!

We met many of Tait's friends for the first time. I recognized them, and felt like I already knew them. And although I knew Tait was close to them I was surprised by the bond that was clearly evident between them. They posses a depth of love for each other that is revealed in the way they speak about each other and an obvious unshakeable knowing in they're interactions. I thought about it today as I drove. Was it obvious to me the bond that was there because I know who he was close to or was it there apart from that? It was not from my previous knowledge, it was in their eyes and familiarity, almost like soldiers gone through a battle together. I have no doubt they will be friends for life.
I get the feeling they know me better than our meeting for the first time. I am grateful to The Lord for the gift of each of them. They all possess great riches that few in this life have. I don't think it's uncommon to have a deep friendship but I think it's very difficult to have a group of friends that go so deep, that they did that without need of a huge tragedy like a war or something is incredible to me. Tait's struggle to be in two places finally makes sense to me. I have had the desire to be with different people in different places at the same time, I'm not referring to a common struggle.
There was so much to take in, stepping into Tait's world. One thing that was a great joy was to reconnect with Kira Clark, she talked with Tess and I as old friends and we loved every minute of it. Kira and Tait had been debate rivals during high school, now Kira is dating one of Tait's closest friends.
A group of us played Apples to Apples until we were kicked out.
It was a wonderful day.

Philadelphia

This morning we started a little late. We parked in downtown Philadelphia and made breakfast got dressed ect... Then walked around the corner to a little coffee shop and got some coffee :)

We just started walking down the street when two guys came up to us at the same time trying to sell us two different bus tours. They were competing for our attention and trying to tell us why their tour was better. The cost for the tour started out $27 for each of us but they tried to beat each other with their prices so we ended up paying $20 for all three of us. It was really hard to turn one of them down, but we got a great deal and the tour was really good. We sat right behind the tour guide on the top of a double decker bus. She was really good at her job and made the whole tour interesting, light-hearted and fun.

For lunch we had some Cheese steak sandwiches. That was really yummy :)

It was so interesting to see old historic and unique architecture right next to very modern looking skyscrapers. Every street was totally different.

We went to a huge museum that was dedicated to Benjamin Franklin. Drew and I went through this really in depth spy exhibit. There was so much information in there we could have spent an entire day looking at all the cool gadgets and reading up on spy history. I was sad we had to miss so much of it as it got late. We also saw a short presentation in a big planetarium about astronomy. There were other sections we saw, but these ones were by far our favorite.

We were too late getting back into town after the museum to tour the inside of most of the historical sites, which was disappointing. However, we had a really fun day and got to see a lot of other cool things.

For dinner we met up with an old friend of my mom's along with her husband. They drove two and a half hours to see us. Mrs. Rosner was in my mom's wedding. Mr. Rosner had some really good questions for us. He asked mom and Mrs. Rosner what advice they would give to themselves at age 19 knowing what they do now, and he asked Drew and I what we imagined when we get old we would tell ourselves now. Then he bought dinner for us. They were both so sweet and we had a really fun time together.

Tonight we are going to try and reach Baltimore and stay with the Bulls. Our estimated time of arrival is 11:30pm at this point.
